Founder of Java Yogini, LLC, Felicia Hilscher, is a Yin Yoga Instructor and Reiki Practitioner who focuses on women’s health and wellness (but all are welcome to practice with her). Her intent in private yoga sessions, small group workshops and Reiki sessions is to hold space so every participant can find what they need in that moment and carry that feeling away with them.
Her private yoga sessions and small group workshops are based on the Yin practice in which simple seated poses are held for three to five minutes to get past the muscle and focus on strengthening and lengthening the joints, bones, ligaments and fasica. Focusing on the energy systems within the body, Yin also provides numerous benefits to all organs. Her classes mimic the path of a wave—beginning in calming poses to relax the mind and body, then building up to allow the body to find its edge, and finally cascading down through meditation, detoxifying twists and savasana. She guides each class with the assistance of instrumental music, acoustic remakes, soulful ballads and thoughtful readings.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through each person. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Felicia’s 45 or 60 minute hands-on Reiki healing sessions allow energy to flow freely, removing any blockages that could be causing emotional or physical pain.
Felicia found yoga after being diagnosed with endometriosis. She fell in love with what the practice brought to her life and decided to obtain her 200-hour yoga certification with Diana Vitantonio in 2016 so she could share the practice with others. She later found the same joy with Reiki and completed her Master’s Reiki Level certification with Tina Dicillo (2019). She is always continuing her practice and education to better her own health and her students.
